The VSCA raced for the prize money put up by David Barker and family with the Supa Spray Feature at the Nyora Speedbowl. There were four heats run with each car running in three of them.

Placings

Heat 1 Logue, Barker, Painter, Hughes, Fitzpatrick

Heat 2 Logue, Bowman, Painter

Heat 3 Barker, Hughes, Bowman

Heat 4 Logue, Barker, Hughes, Bowman, Hutchins

Heat 1

Darren Painter was on pole but Mick Cook lead down the back straight followed by Peter Logue Painter, David Barker, Andrew Hughes and Mark Fitzpatrick. Cook held onto the lead and was challenged by Logue. When they came to the backmarkers Cook and Logue came together. Logue was able to continue on but Cook had to retire. On the restart Logue led Barker, Painter, Hughes and Fitzpatrick and that is how they finished.

Heat 2

Ken Hutchins shot to lead but his lead was short lived when he hit the wall coming out of turn 4 the first time. He was OK but his car was worse for wear. On the restart Logue took to the lead followed by Rod Bowman Painter and Cook. Cook had to pull in with a couple of laps to go which left Logue, Bowman and Painter to take out the places.

Heat 3

With Hutchins still working on his car and Warrick Taylor having fuel problems this left Hughes, Barker, Bowman and Painter to face the starter. Barker back after is rather nasty contact with the wall at Rosedale recently had his new car going well and took a handy lead. Bowman was close to Hughes but could not get through. Painter lost his fourth place because he did not respond to the Steward.

Heat 4

Logue was on pole and took the lead and opened up a handy lead from Barker, Hughes, Bowman, Hutchins and Taylor. Logue was going particularly well as was Barker and they came in ahead of Hughes, Bowman and Hutchins.

Feature

Logue was on pole with Barker also on the front row. Logue continued where he left off at Bairnsdale by taking out the heats he ran in. Barker was having a great night having his first run in his new car and they lead from the start. Logue soon opened up a lead which turned into a half lap lead from Barker. Bowman was also having a good night and was getting close to Barker but could not bridge the gap. Logue continued to do well and to the credit of all the drivers it was about lap 12 of the 20 lap feature that Logue started lapping the back markers. So the final placings were Logue, Barker, Bowman, Cook and Painter.

Saturday night January 15th at Rosedale Speedway the VSC Sprintcars finest hit the dirt once more for a action packed event with Dennis Jones in the # 7 ‘DJE’ sponsored 335ci Mopar finding the finish line first in a dominate display ahead of Mal Siely and Mick Cook.
Drama plagued a number of drivers through the night not the least Dave Barker who slammed the wall coming out of turn four in his # 18 ‘Supaspray Smash Repairs’ Chev leaving him in an ambulance and on the way to hospital!

With four heat’s and then a feature racing got underway with Cook leading away the field in heat one with Barker and Peter Logue the chasing drivers. Darren Painter was charging early from 7th to 4th by lap three. Barker took command of the race on lap 5 by passing Cook in turn 3 underneath Cook and Logue soon roared past Cook (# 77 Trans All Motors – 327 Chev) down the back straight on the 6th lap. Barker marched on to win from Logue, Cook, Painter, Andrew Hughes, Shane Fisher, Rob Hunter and Mark Fitzpatrick (# 96 Pro- Ma Performance Products – 330ci Chev).

Siely and Jones began heat two on the front row and Siely began the better of the two as he led lap one from Jones, Cook and Logue (# 6 Morwell Cheap Tyres – 337ci Ford). Jones worked hard to get past and by lap 3 managed to get the lead and scoot away. Logue wound up and moved ahead of Cook on the back straight on lap 6 before passing Siely in turn 2 on lap 7. Jones was too far in front and went on to win by some distance from Logue, Siely, Cook, Barker, Rod Bowman and Fisher. After two races new club member Ken Hutchins (# 49 Modern Stainless Steel – Chev 327ci) hadn’t finished either of his first two heats as he tried to work out mechanical issues in the engine bay.

Heat 3 started messy with a couple restarts before Painter blew a motor. It was only on the fourth restart that the field really got going with Jones leading the ‘Hughes Plant Machinery’ 336ci Chev of Hughes and Barker. Cook was showing strong form and passed Barker on the back straight then pole sitter Hughes who dropped back allowing Barker to pass him also, Jones took his second heat win from Cook, Barker, Hughes and Bairnsdale race driver Bowman driving the # 35 WestPoint Motor Company 330ci Chev.

The final qualifying heat gave the front row of Fisher (# 12 Sheppard’s Smash Repairs – 331ci Ford) and Hunter and from back in the pack in 6th spot Jones quickly assumed command of the field leading Logue and Hughes. Jones and Logue cleared away from the pack by some distance ahead of Hughes, Fisher and Bowman before Hughes spun and rejoined the field at the back of the pack without causing a stoppage. Bowman and Siely pushed forward and whilst the leaders were long gone they enjoyed their own stoush. Jones took the win with Logue, Bowman, Siely, Fisher, Hughes and Hunter (Hennessey Transport # 88 327 Chev) rounding out the field.

The grid lined up for the feature with Jones, Logue, Barker, Cook, Bowman, Hughes, Fisher, Siely (EastCoast Plumbtec # 87 327 Chev), Hunter and Allan Pitcher hitting the race track and Hutchins, Painter and Fitzpatrick all missing out due various mechanical concerns with their cars. When the green dropped lap one was dominated by Jones with Logue, Barker and Cook in tow. Pitcher who himself had been having engine issues that stopped him from completing any heat race pulled out of the feature on lap 2. By lap 4 Jones was pulling away from the field whilst Siely started to swave a path through the field.

Fisher spun and on the same lap Logue pulled infield leaving Barker in second and Cook, Siely and Hunter behind him. Towards the end of the race the guys at the back of the field started to shuffle around whilst Hughes just couldn’t get his car firing and languished at the tail of the field. With two laps to go Barker came out of turn four and collected the concrete wall with a decent clout. Enough of a clout that the ambulance took him for observation at the hospital. The race was declared and Jones announced as the winner with Siely, Cook, Bowman, Hunter, Fisher and Hughes all completing the race.

After the race Jones spoke about the win. “I’m really pleased with the effort of the whole team tonight, We won all 3 heats and the final and that’s a stark contrast to the roll-over we suffered last time we were here. To Barker I hope that he is ok and back at the track next meeting and to Siely and Cook it is great to see you both in podium positions, well done. We have some big events now with the SRA (Sprintcar Racers Association) in Melbourne to get through but look forward to being back soon to race against the guys here.”

Top five in the series points currently sits at Logue, Hughes, Jones, Bowman and Barker.

SPRINTCARS TO SQUIRT THE DIRT AT BAIRNSDALE

Motorsport fans in Gippsland should consider putting some high powered V8 action into their Christmas by attending Bairnsdale Speedway this Sunday the 26th of December as the VSC Sprintcars tear up the neighbourhood with their brand fully sideways, dirt chewing, full noise action.

Amongst the entries are standout Ford powered driver Peter Logue from Morwell who won round one at Rosedale Speedway recently and rookie sensation Traralgon’s Andrew Hughes who has finished high in the standings at both race meetings already held for the Sprintcars this season.

Last time at Bairnsdale the meeting was lost due to rain, so locals are looking forward to some great summer weather this weekend that will allow the guys to hit the dirt and play!

Bairnsdale’s Rod Bowman will be right at home and looking to impress as his team owner and local Bairnsdale business man Colin Sands has purchased the best of the best equipment for this season with a 2010 chassis and a top of the range Chev engine from a well known engine builder in Melbourne.

David Barker was impressive at his last start at Rosedale and the ‘President’ will be extremely strong again whilst Mal Siely an accomplished Gippsland race driver with numerous Victorian title victories will hope for no mechanical issues that plagued him at the last event in order to challenge at the front on Sunday night.

Darren Painter from Moe returns to the tour having not raced since Wangaratta in October whilst David Moore from Glengarry North, Shane Fisher, Johnsonville’s Robert Sands, Robert Hunter and Morwell’s Mark Fitzpatrick will all keep the front runners honest and looking for a podium position themselves this weekend.

Fans are invited to come out this weekend to see the Sprintcars and share in the festive fun. Be sure to say hello to the drivers and their teams later in the evening when access to the pit enclosure is given.

LOGUE VICTORIOUS AT ROSEDALE

Saturday night the 4th of December the VSC Sprintcars put on their brand of track stomping, rough riding motorsport racing at Rosedale Speedway with Peter Logue from Morwell coming up trumps on points ahead of Dennis Jones and a tie for third between Dave Barker and rookie Andrew Hughes (# 22 Hughes Plant Earthmoving, Chev).

Unfortunately for competitors due to circumstances beyond their control the Rosedale Speedway Club were unable to put on a feature race as their generator failed and darkness caught up to the race meeting. Four heats were run with Mick Cook, Peter Logue x 2 and Jones winning those.

Cook in his ‘Trans All Motors’ # 77 Chev powered race car led from pole to finish in heat one with Hughes, Jones, Warrick Taylor, Rob Hunter, David Moore (# 10 Dryden Chiropractic Centre Traralgon, Chev), Rod Bowman, Rob Sands and Mark Fitzpatrick (# 96 Pro-Ma Performance Products, Chev) the rest of the finishers.

Taylor was sent rear of field during the race after tangling with car # 88 Hunter (Hennessy Transport, Chev) whilst fourth and worked his way back to finish there whilst the hard charger was Jones from 8th to 3rd in results. Former Victorian Champion Mal Siely failed to finish with magneto issues and his night was just about over.

In heat two Logue in the # 6 Logue 4 x 4 Ford powered car quickly flashed from the second row of the grid to stick behind Barker for the first three laps before a spinning Hunter and the dust coming from his car caused Barker to slow coming off turn four allowing Logue to pass for the lead. Cook failed to finish with a broken camshaft, Shane Fisher (# 12 Uptime Truck & Trailer Services) ran out of fuel and Siely in the Eastcoast Plumbtec # 87 didn’t even get the car to start and headed for the race trailer. Results were Logue, Barker, Hughes, Taylor (# 69 Banger Excavations, Chev), Moore, Hunter and Fitzpatrick.

Jones began heat three from the front and that’s were he finished in the # 7 Dennis Jones Engineering Mopar powered car with Barker again a strong second from Sands, Hughes, Bowman (# 35 Westpoint Motor Company), Fisher, Hunter and Fitzpatrick. Barker in his brand new Eagle Chassis sponsored by SupaSpray Smash Repairs was showing that he had greatly increased pace on last season which by anybody’s measures was a fantastic season in itself.

In the final heat Taylor began on pole however a push from 5th, 6th and 7th through the field put them all in the top three positions with Logue coming from furthest back to hit the front and defeat Jones, Bowman, Taylor, Barker, Moore, Sands(# 55 Johnsonville Garage, Chev) and Fisher. After the chequer flag fell a collision between Jones and Sands with both cars ending up on their sides or upside down, brought the night to a close as the generator for the Speedway club couldn’t get going.

So with the round win going to Logue based on heat points total’s a pleased Logue commented. “It is disappointing not the be able to put a feature on for the crowd and win the night on the track with a feature win, however we are very pleased with the cars performance in what is a brand new car for us. I get the feeling though that Jones and I are in for a tough season as Barker, Hughes and Taylor are all pressing for podium finishes and race victories. It should be a great season from a fan perspective.”

Next race meeting for the VSC Sprintcars in December the 26th at Bairnsdale Speedway.

This Saturday night the roar of Sprintcar engines once again is set to shake Rosedale as they rock n’ rumble around the fast Central Gippsland circuit with their unique style of adrenalin packed entertainment.

So far there has been no complete VSC Sprintcar meeting held this season since October the 23rd back at Wangaratta Speedway and this is due to the inclement weather that has washed out events at Nyora and Bairnsdale and the drivers are all champing at the bit to get back out in the dirt and play!

Way back at Wangaratta the 335ci Mopar powered ‘Dennis Jones Engineering’ # 7 driven by Jones himself led home Peter Logue in the feature race, both Jones and Logue will be back to do it all again at Rosedale. The reigning Victorian state champion Jones is once again proving he will be tough to beat in VSC Sprintcars this season whilst Logue (# 6 Morwell Cheap Tyres) a former Victorian champion himself will be working hard to reverse the order and to bring home victory for Ford fans.

Last year’s Victoria # 3 Warrick Taylor with new sponsor ‘Banger Excavations’ is looking forward to getting back onto Rosedale Speedway the scene of his fantastic championship result last season after the aborted meeting at Bairnsdale last weekend wet his appetite in the one and only heat race he got to compete in whilst Andrew Hughes a rookie who performed well at Wangaratta in his first ever Sprintcar event is somebody else to watch out for this coming weekend with both drivers both in Chevrolets.

Rod Bowman this year is powered by a fresh Chevrolet engine care of John Sidney race engines that makes over 500hp in the ‘Westpoint Motor Company’ team car and Bowman who is always entertaining is keen to rattle last season’s leading cars by sticking his car up the front come the all important feature race on Saturday night.

Rob Sands, Rob Hunter, David Moore, David Barker and Mark Fitzpatrick are all in Chevrolet powered race cars looking to make a mark on the leader board this weekend with Barker in the ‘Supaspray Smash Repairs’ racecar the likely danger to the pointy end of the field after strong performances last season whilst Sands and Moore are handy steerers looking for a little more luck this season.

Another ‘Ford’ in the hands of Shane Fisher will be looking to fly the flag along with Logue for the blue oval fans whilst hard chargers Mick Cook and Mal Siely will also be ones to watch as the laps click on during the feature.

To get a closer look at the cars themselves head to ‘Bunning’s’ in Morwell where drivers including Logue, Jones and Fitzpatrick will all have their race cars on display at around 9.30am until just after lunch when they head out to the race track.

This season the VSC Sprintcars thank their current supporters including association point score sponsors:

One team that is looking froward to the upcoming season is the Fisher Team

Shane and Lyn Fisher campaigned a car with the VSC Sprintcars a couple of seasons ago.Shane felt that he missed the class so much he and Lyn went ahead a took over the number 13 car .
This is the Ford powered car previously campaigned by the Philips family. Dale set up the car and drove for a couple of seasons , then son Michael was given the chance to have track experience as a sixteen year old. He did not take long to show his capabilities and now has been given the oportunity to compete in the 360′s.
This has given Shane the chance to get a proven car in the class. The only speedway experience Shane has had is his previous stint with the VSC Sprintcars. He did particularly well then and we are sure he and his team will be competative this season.
The car as shown is ready for the sign writer but has since been finished and I hear he will be giving the car a shake down at Bacchus Marsh shortly.
